World Refugee Day Celebration

06/20/2023 03:00 PM - 09:00 PM ET

Description

Join RISSE and its partner agencies for a film screening of Utica: The Last Refuge on June 20th in honor of World Refugee Day. The documentary follows a newcomer family's challenges and successes resettling in an Upstate NY city and explores the positive tranformation refugees and immigrants have had on that city and its economic resurgence.

Come for the full film or just stop by to learn more about RISSE and its work with refugees, immigrants, and asylum-seekers in the Capital Region. We will be joined by many of our community partners who share in this work with us and help create a safety net for our newest neighbors. Learn more about how you can get involved in welcoming refugees and immigrants to our community.

Where: Opalka Gallery, The Sage Colleges, 140 New Scotland Avenue, Albany

Film screenings: 3:00pm and 6:00pm

Reception:  5:00pm - 9:00pm, light refreshments will be served.

Donations will help fund RISSE programs and services, including the launch of new English classes for asylum-seekers recently arrived in Albany.

This event will be dedicated to the long time supporter and Development Director, Cheryl Lasher, who passed away unexpectedly this early June. We hope you can join us to honor the contributions she has made to the newcomer community.
